Positive: Host was very friendly and thoughtful. I had to check in late and he had been in to turn the heating on before I arrived. This was a lovely touch.
Negative: This property has so much potential. I was staying away for work on two consecutive weeks and looking for a 'home away from home' feel where i could cook for myself and relax away from work, but I cancelled the second week for a couple of reasons. The property was not clean - In particular, it appears as though the bathroom had not been cleaned for weeks and still had old mats down in the bathroom which clearly had been used for weeks. The oven in the kitchen was not clean and there was food left in the fridge and freezer that had been left behind. The washing up clothes and brushes were used and unclean. No tea towels or oven gloves provided for use. There was also dirty crockery in the cupboard which made me not want to use anything. The bedroom is a mismatch of furniture, no bedside tables and the lamps which were sat on the floor were sticky and dirty. The bedding was well worn and did not feel clean. The TV was tiny and difficult to watch from the bedroom. It was also not possible to stream netflix to the tv as it was not a smart TV, and something I overlooked was that there is no wifi at the property. I took this as standard in this day and age only to find that despite there being a router in the property it was not connected. I was provided with 1 towel for the entire week. It was well worn and did not feel clean. I raised these issues with the owner who apologised and said that he would get these issues addressed. He daughter dropped a couple of extra towels over to the cottage but these were even worse, old, discoloured with stains. the sort of towels i would reserve for drying my dog. Due to my cancellation the host also decided he did not need to clean the bathroom or kitchen while I was out at work 'as i was checking out the next day'. I found this highly disrespectful and disappointing. Not the home from home experience I had hoped for. I spoke at length with the owner about these issues and he refunded me 1 nights stay.
