Located 5 minutes drive to the Franconia Notch attractions that include the Flume, the Basin, and Echo Lake recreation area (swimming and boat rentals), and what is widely regarded as the best day-hikes in the region. The Appalachian trail traverses the notch, and if you hike up to backcountry huts, Lonesome Lake, or Greenleaf huts late in the day, you may catch a glimpse of 1,000-mile through-hikers on their last 100 miles. If you want to experience backcountry overnights, we highly recommend those (Lonesome, Zealand, Galen, or Greenleaf make good combinations nearby) and signing up early. New Hampshire hiking is on well-worn but rough and sometimes steep historic trails, with many waterfalls and swirling granite pools for unique north country cold water fun.
